Windows Mobile Is Now Open To Developers

Developers who have been wanting to get their hands on Windows Mobile don't have to wait any longer. Over the weekend, Microsoft opened its Windows Marketplace for Mobile to developers, and the process of getting started actually isn't too difficult.
In fact, the new marketplace's homepage promises, "Windows Marketplace for Mobile makes it easy to manage and distribute your applications, and will directly connect you with millions of Windows Mobile users worldwide." And the only potentially painful part is supplying Microsoft $99 to cover your first five submissions.
The handful of other steps just boil down to getting a Windows Live ID, signing the application provider agreement, creating a profile, and providing some business info so that Microsoft can contact you and share revenue.
Microsoft's new marketplace is likely to have some trouble competing with the popular ones tied to Apple and Google's Android, but developers should remember that their apps will stand out more in an emptier environment.
At the least, developers may find that it's worth their time to adapt the most successful applications they created for those other systems, and thus aim for a minimum effort/maximum reward scenario.
